An Absolutely Remarkable Thing

An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green

An Absolutely Remarkable Thing is a novel one could read over and over without getting bored. It is a relatively short book; however, every page is suspenseful and intriguing. After reading the book, it is a 10/10 read. An Absolutely Remarkable Thing is about a giant robot, Carle, who magically appears in major cities all around the world during the span of one night. Whoever put the Carles in the cities also hacked the security cameras nearby and forced them to see looped footage. Whenever people tried to watch the security cameras, an old Queen song played in the background. When the main character, April May, discovers the robot, she posts a viral video about it. However, April does not care about the fame. She just wants to appreciate the piece of artwork, Carle.

When April hears about the security cameras and the song playing in the background, she does some research and discovers that the Wikipedia page for the Queen song is glitched with typos. She thinks that the Wikipedia glitch has something to do with Carle. Every time she fixes one of the errors, a new error appears. Eventually, she realizes that the errors are in a sequence and that the sequence is a list of elements and their isotopes. April goes to gather the elements, but when she gives them to Carle something weird happens.

The best parts of An Absolutely Remarkable Thing are a mystery and the hook at the beginning. I don’t usually read mystery books because the author usually takes too long to get to the plot twist; however, in An Absolutely Remarkable Thing, Hank Green gets to the plot twist quickly. The twist happens about ¼ of the way through the book when April is in LA.

I also like how quickly An Absolutely Remarkable Thing gets into the plot. Hank Green briefly describes the main character, April, and then suddenly, the robot, Carle, is introduced. Shortly after that, April and her friend, Andy take a video that goes viral. This video is what helps to move the plot forward because when news stations use the video without permission, she sues and is offered $10,000 for every news station that used her video. All she had to do was go on the air for an interview. This led her to travel around the country and start learning more about the Carles.

In conclusion, An Absolutely Remarkable Thing is an incredibly intriguing novel, and I would definitely recommend it to anybody interested in mystery or modern fiction.

  1. Great review! This book sounds interesting- I usually am a fantasy/sci-fi type of person but mystery is a close second. I like that you mentioned how quickly the author gets into the plot- I dislike books that drag with unnecessary words and descriptions.

  2. Great review Ezra. I liked how you gave me a good idea about what the book was about without giving the whole plot away. The beginning of your blog makes me want to read the book because of how you formatted your blog and made the rest of the plot mysterious.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone Book Review (in honor of the movie's 20th anniversary!)

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone: In grand celebration of the Movie adaptations 20th anniversary, I thought that it would be somewhat appropriate to reflect on the first ever Harry Potter book: Sorcerer's (or Philosopher's) Stone! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Spoilers The story follows the lovable, ever iconic Harry Potter: As a baby, he lost his parents to "You-Know-Who," an evil and powerful wizard, but lived when he struck him with a spell, leaving a lightning bolt shaped scar on his head. He's delivered to his closest relatives the Dursleys: Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon, and Cousin Dudley.  He's raised in their house as sort of a lesser being who's inferior to the rest of the family. This stems from the fact that he has magical heritage, which would harm the Dursley's appearance of being completely, totally, wholly normal. He's forced into staying in a dusty cupboard und...

Weekly Shonen Jump currently holds the undying One Piece ( CHAPTER 1  CAME OUT IN 1997 AND IT STILL HAS CHAPTERS NOW ), The "quirky"  My Hero Academia , Jujutsu Kaisen, and more.
