Paper Towns Summary and Review by Swapnil

John Green is a name that you probably have heard of. I actually only knew John Green because of his hilariously funny but informational crash course videos. These videos were made in a way that was informational but also not boring at all. When I saw famous books on the shelves such as “The Fault in our Stars” and “Turtles All the Way Down”, and saw that the author's name was John Green I never realized that this was the same man who taught history videos on YouTube. Since I thought that John was a funny and really cool guy, I picked up “The Fault in our Stars” expecting to read something relating to his crash course videos. I was heavily mistaken. Due to this, I picked up Paper Towns and so here is my summary and review of the book. The story starts off by introducing the main character of the book, Quentin, an obedient and intelligent adolescent who spends his time with his two geeky closest friends. Like all romance stories he had a crush on a girl who h...

The Hunger Games By: Suzanne Collins  Plot Summary: Katniss Everdeen lives in a dystopian world where 2 people from 12 different districts fight to the death for the amusement of the capitol people. She grew up in District 12, the poorest district. Reaping day is the day when the 2 people are chosen. When the female tribute is chosen, it is Katniss’s sister, Prim. Katniss quickly volunteers herself instead. The male tribute is drawn, and she discovers that it is the town baker’s son, Peeta Mellark. Katniss and Peeta are immediately put on a train to the capitol alongside their new mentor, Haymitch. Haymitch was the most recent champion from District 12. He is responsible for getting them gifts when they are in the arena. When they arrive at the capitol, Katniss and Peeta must prepare for the opening ceremony. Prisoner B-3087 by Alan Gratz Review by Swapnil Kumar

Recently, you may have gotten an email about Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. Uni received a grant allowing students and faculty to take part in a virtual tour of Auschwitz. This email reminded me about a book that I read the summer of subbie year called Prisoner B-3087 written by Alan Gratz. Here’s a quick summary of the book and a review of my opinions on it. Yanek Gruener, a little Jewish child and ain character of this story is ten years old when the Nazis invaded his native city of Kraków, Poland in September 1939. Yanek, his parents, Oskar and Mina, and the rest of his Jewish family are all subjected to immediate limitations on their liberties. He arrives at a concentration camp, where he sees his uncle Moshe for the first time. Yanek must stay unknown and unconcerned about anything, Moshe continues, because anything might be used as an excuse for the Nazis to execute people. The whole story goes on about Yanek’s adventure and is a thrilling yet re...

So you're in the mid 50's, it's summer, enjoying life, and then people are disappearing...What's the worst that could happen?

Beach House: By R.L Stine A review by Willie Fowler Summary of the first chapters. With the removal of many spoilers. ~~~.+**+.~~~ Picture this: It's the Summer of 1956, school just got out, and new hits like "Sh-Boom" just dropped on the radio. You go out to the beach in an old convertible with the crash-resistance of a Pringle, and hang out with your friends. We have Maria, Amy, Ronnie, Stuart, and... Buddy . I don't mean to judge, but I always thought that "Buddy" was sort of an odd name for someone. Maria is our lead, with black, silky hair, never gone steady with someone. Amy, who is curiously described to be mouse-like, going steady with Ronnie, Ronnie, an annoying jokester character whose pranks lean more towards needless cruelty, Stuart, the cool kid. Or, really tries hard to be. He's the guy with the heavily, and I mean heavily applied gel in his ducktail hairstyle.  and then Buddy. Good looking, but described as 'intense,' 'very s...
